Sparky’s Column
Bresciano Q and A
I was lucky enough this week to be party to an interview with Marco Bresciano and Ted Totsidis from the Totally Football Radio Show. The transcript of the interview features in this week's column and gives us an insight into the life of one of the big foreign names here in the UAE.
You currently play for Al Nasr in Dubai, can you tell us about your experiences in the UAE Pro League since you've arrival?
It's been a great time so far, I have my family with me and they have settled well after 6 months in the UAE, in fact they are learning to love the place especially the warm winters. In terms of the professional side working with Walter Zenga has been great and I am really excited about Luca Toni's arrival at the club. I am really happy here both on and off the pitch and want to see out my contract with the club.
Coached by Walter Zenger and also playing alongside Luca Toni... is this a Palermo reunion?
(Laughs) I Never thought of it that way. We were all at the club but at different times but it's great to have something in common. I think that Italian influence is something we can all relate to. I think now I will mention that it is a Palermo reunion to Walter and Luca.
Will you start wearing salmon pick shirts next season?
(Laughs) I don't quite think we have the power to change the colors of the club. Al Nasr suit blue and have always worn the color so I don't think it will be changing anytime soon.
You're in some good form at the moment 5 goals in 6 games.
The key is that I am enjoying it at the moment and my good form is an extension of that. The team have been playing really well in the last few months and my goals only come because of the team performing at the top of their game.
Holger Osieck recently revealed you were being considered for upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.
It's a possibility, I would love to be back with the Socceroos. I don't know if I will be around for the next World Cup but I would certainly love to help the team qualify. The Asian legs of the qualifiers take a long time compared to Europe so if my country needs me at any point I would love to be involved.
Are you still itching to win a major tournament with the Socceroos or is that goal slowly becoming a distant dream?
It's always hard for Australia but we have the ability to win an Asian Cup after just missing out last time, whether I am around for the next championships time will tell.
It's the World Cup 2006, describe the feeling of stepping out onto a field to represent a country that hadn't qualified for 32 years.
It's hard to describe but its easily the best feeling I had ever had on a football pitch. You just overlook pressure and enjoy the moment. It was the highlight of my career playing in the World Cup and the first one in 2006 is the most special.
Will you go full circle and end up back in the A-League one day?
Maybe who knows if I will return but at the moment I am concentrating on UAE League and trying to gain some silverware with Al Nasr.
