About PLC
WHO WE ARE
The Pro League Committee (PLC) works under the umbrella of the UAE Football Association. Holding all the commercial rights, the PLC is the organising body of the Arabian Gulf League, UAE League Cup, Arabian Gulf Super Cup, and Reserve League.
The PLC does not operate in isolation; it works proactively with the club members to improve the quality of football locally, regionally and intercontinentally.
WHO WE WORK WITH
The PLC works with the 14 Professional Clubs in the UAE: Al Ahli, Al Ain. Al Jazira, Al Wasl, Ajman, Al Nasr, Al Shabab, Dubai, Al Wahda, Bani Yas, Al Shaab, Al Dhafra, Emirates and Sharjah, in accordance with the international football regulations identified by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). General Assembly Meetings are held periodically, along with exceptional meetings with all the professional clubs to discuss the status, needs and requirements of professional football in the UAE. These meetings usually take place at the end of each season, when two clubs are relegated to the First Division League and two are promoted to the Professional League.
HISTORY
The Pro League Committee was established in February 2007, with a resolution issued by the Football Association General Committee headed at that time by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs to set a committee concerned with establishing a professional league according to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) regulations.
In November 2007, the committee started a workshop and recommended a working system providing internal regulations and partnership contracts with the clubs. In April 2008, an agreement was signed with the Football Association and in June 2008, the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare had officially announced the formation under the name of “UAE Football League (UFL)”. Maintaining the same mandate, the Pro League Committee (PLC) replaced the “UFL” according to the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare resolution approved in a meeting attended by all members in June 2011.
In May 2013 it was announced that the UAE’s only professional league will operate under the name of the Arabian Gulf League commencing the 2013/2014 season, with the Arabian Gulf Super Cup, the UAE League Cup and the Reserve League competitions running in conjunction.
