Al Ain 3-0 Al Wahda: Mohammed Abdulrahman at the double

Al Ain turned on the style to cruise to a comfortable 3-0 win over Al Wahda in Round Two of the UAE League Cup on Monday night. An opener by Diaky followed by a Mohammed Abdulrahman double saw Al Ain rack up their first three points of the competition, whereas Al Wahda were unable to build on their Round One victory and slumped to defeat at the Tahnon bin Mohamed Stadium.

With Al Ain looking to make amends for a disappointing opening round result, Jorge Fossati’s men took the lead in the 26th minute through summer signing Diaky. The former Al Jazira star controlled the ball on his chest before firing a blistering left-footed shot beyond Al Wahda goalkeeper Adel Mohamed to put Al Ain 1-0 up and set the Garden City side on the way to victory. Al Wahda maintained an equal amount of possession during the first half but were unable to make tangible use of it, as a goal separated the sides at the break.

Mohammed Abdulrahman showed good vision to run onto a quick throw-in from the right by Mirel Radoi and nick a simple left-footed finish past Adel Mohamed to make it 2-0 just three minutes after the restart. And ten minutes later it was Mohammed Abdulrahman who bagged his brace to add a third goal for Al Ain in the 49th minute. A Michel Bastos free kick cannoned off the wall before being whipped back in by the Brazilian, bobbling around in the box, but Mohammed Abdulrahman did enough to get a decisive strike into the back of the net. Al Ain controlled the remainder of the game and Jorge Fossati’s understrength side – missing stars such as Omar Abdulrahman, Asamoah Gyan, Mohammed Ahmed and Ismael Ahmed due to international duty – comfortably saw out a 3-0 victory.
