UAE Olympic team overcome Sir Lanka 7-1

The UAE U-23 Olympic Football Team humiliated their counterparts Sir Lanka 7-1 in their London 2012 Olympic first round qualifiers match played tonight at Bani Yas ground in Al Shamkha area. The two squads will play their second game at the same venue next Friday March, 11 according to the agreement signed between the UAE FA and their Sri Lankan counterparts with the former paying full expenses for the visitors including tickets and accommodation.

The hosts maintained an easy win over their rivals after dominating the major parts of the game. Ahmad Khalil opened the score only seven minutes into the game capitalizing on a lovely pass from Omar Abdul Rahman. Rashid Essa made it 2-0 eight minutes later with a perfect header and added the 3rd in the 22nd minute. The UAE' team was awarded a penalty kick when Ahmad Khalil was brought down inside the six yard area by a defender in the 38th minute and Hamdan Al Kamaly made no mistake when he drove the ball home ending the first session with a 4-0 victory.

The home squad continued their control of the match after the break giving their contenders hard time and only nine minutes have passed in the second half before Ahmad Khalil added the 5th goal. In spite of conceding five goals, but the visiting team made some attempts and their rare attacks yielded a consolation goal when Philip Rashi headed the ball home in the 62nd minute. Ahmad Ali made it 6-1 with a lovely header in the 64th minute and substitute Ali Mabkhout completed the rout when he found the back of the net off a fierce volley launched by Hamdan Al Kamali and rebounded off the goalkeeper's hands three minutes later.
