UAE Olympic Team lose to Oman 2/4 on penalty shootout
The UAE Olympic Football Team lost to their Omani counterparts in the final match of the third edition of the GCC Olympic National Football Teams under 23 years, which was concluded yesterday in Doha, Qatar, at Academy "Aspire" after both teams were tied to a goalless draw in the original time.
Mahdi Ali, UAE's coach started the game with a line up including goalkeeper Mahmoud Ahmad, Saad Suroor, Mohammad Ahmad and Abdul Aziz Sanghoor in the defense line, Mohammad Fawzi, Habeeb Al-Fardan, Rashid Essa, and Haboosh Saleh for the midfield, Ali Mabkhout and Mohammad Abdul Rahman in the front line. Mahdi Ali brought on three substitutions after the break when Mohammad Jamal, Ahmad Ali and Majid Hassan replaced Mohammad Abdul Rahman, Haboosh Saleh and Rashid Essa respectively. Habeeb Al Fardan and Mohammad Fawzi scored for UAE from the penalty kick while both Mohammad Ahmad and Abdul Aziz Sanghoor missed the target. Jaber Al Owais, Mansour al-Nuaimi, Obaid Al Farisi and Jasim Saeed scored for the winners.
The Qatari referee Banger Al Dosary and his assistants Abdulaziz Al Asmari from Saudi Arabia and Bahraini Nawaf Saif Shaheen officiated the game with Fahd Almrdasi (4th referee) , Abdul Aziz Gamber ( match commissioner) and Ali Al-Nuaimi (referees commissioner).
At the end of the match, Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the GCC Football Organizing Committee, accompanied by Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmad Al Thani, Chairman of the Qatari Football Association gave away the trophy and the gold medals to the champion's players of Oman Olympic Team and the silver medals to UAE's players in addition to honoring the referees and members of the tournament organizing committees.
The UAE goalkeeper, Ahmad Mahmoud was selected as the best goalkeeper in the tournament and received his prize from Sheikh Salman Bin Ibrahim Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the GCC Football Organizing Committee.
