The UAE Olympic team starts the Asian games with a single point
The UAE Olympic squads have started their campaign in the Asian games, currently organized in Guangzhou in China, with a single point after being forced by Hong Kong to a 1-1 tie in their match played on Sunday November 7th at Howado pitch. They will face Bangladesh tomorrow Tuesday November 9th at 12 noon in their second game.
Uzbekistan are on top of group 5 with three points following their stunning 3-0 victory over rivals Bangladesh in the same day.
They will play against Hong Kong tomorrow at 3pm and end their group's matches on Thursday November 11th.
The two teams, UAE and Hong Kong, started their game with great care and played the opening minutes with opened eyes. But the UAE dominated the match afterwards with their opponents relying only on counter attacks. The UAE players created a number of chances but they could not score due to lack of concentration in front of the mouth of the losers' goal. They took the lead in the 36th minute when defender Abdullah Mousa stepped forward to drive home the team's lone goal.
The two squads made some good efforts after the break looking for more goals but all their work went in vain.
The UAE team's coach Mahdi Ali made some substitutes in the last minutes of the game to strengthen the attacking line up. He pulled out Mohammed Al Shihi, Ahmad Khalil and Thiyab Awana and fielded in Omer Abdul Raman, Saeed Al Kathery and Haboosh Saleh respectively, and in spite of these changes the team could not add their second goal. Instead, they conceded a goal ten minutes before the final whistle to settle the game with a 1-1 draw.
The UAE squad played with ten players after midfielder Omer Abdul Rahman was given marching orders two minutes before the end of the game.
