The ‘2nd Round’ of Etisalat Cup kicks off on Thursday
The six-week break of the Etisalat-Pro League is considered a good opportunity to pave the way for the UFL teams to continue their struggle for the Etisalat Cup title. The stoppage of the league competition was decided by the UFL Board of Directors earlier due to the participation of the UAE Olympic football team in the Asian Games which is set to kick off on November 7 as well as the UAE senior National team who will take part in the GCC tournament starting from November 20th in Yemen
The ‘1st Round’ of the Etisalat Cup which was played on October 9th has ended in three wins and three draws. Al Ain are staying on the top of group “A” following their 2-0 win over their traditional rivals Al Wahda and Bani Yas finished their opening game with a 2-1 victory over hosts Al Naser to take second position behind Al Ain on goal difference.
The third match of this group saw Al Dhafra and Dubai tied to a 1-1 draw. The Dubai – based Al Shabab team leads group “B” after beating Al Jazira with a solitary goal while Kalba forced Al Ahli to a 1-1 draw and Sharjah and Al Wasl shared the points of their match that ended with a goalless draw.
The two-day ‘2nd round’ is scheduled to commence on Thursday October 4th and concluded the following day. Some of the 12 teams taking part in this competition are going to be highly affected by the absence of a number of their key players who are in National duties with the UAE Olympic and the Senior football National squads while the others will play with full capacity.
Al Ain and Dubai will start the day when they meet tomorrow October 4th at 4:55pm at Tahnon bin Mohammed Stadium - Al Qattara. The hosts will miss some of their key players due to injury besides their midfielder Omer Abdul Rahman who is currently with the Olympic team in China.
The second game between home team Al Shabab and Kalba also starts at 4:55pm.
Al Wasl and Al Jazira will conclude the matches of the first day when they meet at the former’s pitch at 8pm.
The ‘2nd round’ will be concluded on Friday, October 5th with three games starting with Al Ahli tackling it out against Sharjah at Rashid stadium, kick off at 4:55 pm. The hosts maintained a 2-1 win over the visiting team in the 8th week of the Etisalat Pro-League at the same venue.
Al Nasr will travel to the Western region to face the home team Al Dhafra at 5:5pm whereas Bani Yas will play at their home ground against Al Wahda, kick off at 8pm. Both squads will miss the efforts of some of their key players who are currently in National duty.
