Bani Yas beat Sharjah 1-0 for the second time

Bani Yas maintained their second victory in the Etisalat Cup after beating Sharjah with a lone goal this evening at the losers' home ground. It was the second win for Bani Yas over Sharjah within six days in the same competition as they defeated them 4-0 last Sunday. The winners raised their tally to 7 points taking 5th position in Group "B", the same balance that of Al Nasr who are classified in 4th place on head-to-head matches.

Sharjah are staying at the bottom of the table with only two points from two draws and four losses.

Bani Yas intensified their attacks from the start of the match via Toni and Sangahoor and the latter lost a lovely chance in the 11th minute when his shot rebounded off the cross bar followed by Yousuf Jabir's perfect header which was deflected by Sharjah goalkeeper Yahya Mohammad to a corner.

Bani Yas attacking work was paid dividends when Yousuf Jaber was put clear with a long pass from Adnan Hussain to step forward before launching a strong left-footer into the left hand side of Sharjah keeper Yahya Mohammad to score the all-important goal of the match six minutes before the break.

The losers pressed hard for the equalizer and they were rewarded a penalty when Ali Masari fouled Edinho inside the box in the 68th minute, but Marcelo failed to score when Bani Yas goalie Mohammad Khalaf saved bravely.

Things became worse for Sharjah when their midfielder Essam Darweesh was given marching orders in the 73rd minute for tough play. Sharjah finished the game with 10 players and despite of that they made some good efforts but they could not benefit of all the chances that came their way in the last minutes.
