Al Nasr overcome Al Shabab 4-2 to jump to top position
Al Nasr jumped from the fifth position to top the standings of the Etisalat Pro League with seven points following their deserved 4-2 victory over Al Shabab in the third round encounter held this evening at the losers’ Stadium while Al Shabab remain with only three points.
The two teams started the game with great care and every side tried to surprise the other team with an early goal and Al Nasr were the first to make their dreams come true when Mascara gave them the lead in the 25th minute. The Iraqi midfielder Nashat Akram made it 2-0 with a strong shot into the roof of the net five minutes later. The home team went all out trying to reduce the deficit and their hard efforts were soon paid dividends when Brazilian Ciel pulled one back when he sent a fierce volley that hit one of Al Nasr’s defenders and went straight into the net two minutes later to end the first session with a 2-1 win for the visitors.
Both squads doubled their efforts in the second half playing an attacking and beautiful football. They created a number of chances but they failed to find the back of the net. Al Nasr made things difficult for their opponents after their Brazilian player Bruno Cesar scored the third goal nine minutes into the second session. The hosts completed the match with ten players when their defender Essa Mohammed was shown the red card two minutes after Al Nasr’s third goal for the second yellow card. Louis Enrique scored Al Shabab’s second goal with a lovely header in the 69th minute but Mascara put the game beyond their rivals’ reach when he fired the ball into the net in the 72nd minute securing three valuable points for his side Al Nasr.
Brazilian Ricardo Oliveira led Al Jazira to a 2-1 hard fought win over Ajman in the Etisalat Pro League third round game played at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. He scored a brace when he opened the score in the 15th minute and added the second in the 40th minute. Ajman netted their goal in the 19th minute off a penalty kick scored by Waleed Ahmed. The winners raised their balance to 6 points against one point for Ajman.
