President’s Cup First Round Results

14 teams have made their way successfully to the second round of the President's Cup championship after emerging winners in the first round played on Monday and Tuesday this week.

Etisalat Pro-League champions Al Wahda and the current President's Cup title holders Emarat, will join the competition in the second round to take on the already qualified clubs. Al Nasr, Bani Yas, Al Shabab, Al Orooba and Al Zaid beat Al Arabi, Al Hhaleej, Al Shaab, Al Fujairah and Ittihad Kalba respectively in the second day of the tournament to complete the 16 competing teams.

Al Nasr beat Al Arabi 4-2 at Khalid Bin Mohammad Stadium. The first half ended in a 2-2 draw before the winners came to add two other goals in the second session. Fahad Sabeel, Ismail Bangor (two goals) and Lima scored for Al Nasr while Fenist Tashala netted both goals of the losers.

Bani Yas faced no difficulty to put Al Khaleej out of contention beating them 4-1, while Al Shabab got the better of Al Shaab to emerge winners with a lone goal. Al Orooba qualified with a 2-1 victory over Al Fujairah and Al Zaid joined the qualifying teams after defeating Ittihad Kalba 4-2.

 

All the matches ended in normal results and came according to the previous expectations with the exception of one game which saw Sharjah knocked out of the race after their rivals Masafi surprised many by beating their contenders 6-5 on penalty shootout. The two teams were tied in a 1-1 draw in the game played at the Ras Al Khaimahn pitch. Mohammad Amin scored for Masafi from a penalty and Sharjah Robert netted the equalizer for the losers.

Al Jazira enjoyed a huge win following their 7 -0 win against Ras Al Khaimahn. They scored 4 goals in the first session and added three after halftime. Both pros Toni and Bari scored twice for Al Jazira, while Jumma'a Abdullah, Abdullah Musa and Ahmad Jumma'a each netted one goal.

Al Ain came back from Dubai Club's home ground with a big win in their match against Masfoot. The winners ended the first half with only one goal and added four in the second session. Al Ain Argentinean pro Sand, the Etisalat Pro-League top scorer with five goals failed to score in this game despite some easy opportunities that came his way.

But the big result of the day was by Ajman who played a one-sided game after dominating the match to beat their rivals Hatta 9-1. Diba Al Fujairah beat Dubai 2-1, while Al Wasl made had an easy win against Al Taawon after netting 8 goals without conceiving any goal from the other side.

The Armed Forces team qualified to the second stage in their debut with a 4-1 win over Al Jazira Al Hamra.

The 16th stage is due to kick off on 9th and 10th February 2011. In the first day Al Ahli will play against Al Dhafra, Al Wahda will face Ajman, Al Wasl are to meet the Armed Forces while Al Ain will take on Masafi. The round will be completed in the second day when Al Jazira face Al Nasr in a tough match, Emarat, the defending champions are to meet Al Orooba, Diba Al Fujairah and Bani Yas will face Al Zaid and Al Shabab respectively.
