Al Jazira and Al Shabab lead the Etisalat Cup

The first round of the Etisalat Cup was concluded on last Saturday and Sunday for both groups and all the teams are set to start the 2nd round on Friday and Saturday November 18th and 19th. The same teams, who faced each other last round, will meet in the upcoming away matches. By the end of the 6th round, the competition will come to a 74-day halt before recommences on February 2nd with the 7th week’s matches.

Al Jazira have finished the first round on top of Group “A” with 12 points after winning in 4 games and losing only once to Al Ain followed by Al Wasl as runners up with 9 points, Al Ain in 3rd position with 7 points, Al Wahda and Dubai with 6 points each and then Emirates in the last spot with 4 points.

Al Shabab are leading Group “B” with 12 points after beating Ajman in the previous round with a solitary goal. Ajman were leading this group before in four successive rounds but they lost their leadership after this defeat to take 2nd place with 10 points, the same balance of Al Ahli who overcame Al Nasr 3-2 in the last game. Both Bani Yas and Al Nasr are in the 4th and 5th positions with 4 points each while Sharjah are classified in the last place with only two points after drawing with Al Nasr and Al Ahli respectively, and being defeated in  three successive matches. Sharjah are considered the only team who did not maintain a single win in the Etisalat Cup Competition.

All teams, who played at their home ground in the last round, have emerged winners with the exception of Al Nasr who lost 2-3 to Al Ahli. Al Nasr played 9 matches in this season (4 in the Etisalat Pro-League and 5 in the Etisalat Cup); won in two games and drew also in two, but lost in five matches.

On the other hand Sharjah Team are similar to Al Nasr as they won only once against Emirates in the Etisalat Cup in 8 matches, drew in three games ,lost four, scored 10 goals and conceded 20 goals.

The competition for securing one of the two berths to qualify to the semi final is open for all teams in Group “A” as the difference of points is not that big and can easily be reduced in the forthcoming games. This is totally different to Group “B” where, leaders Al Shabab followed by runners up Ajman and Al Ahli are close to secure a berth for the golden square due to the big difference of points from the other teams in the same group.
