League Champions Upset in Season Curtain Raiser

Ras Al Khaimah's Emirates Club caused an upset in the Etisalat Super Cup 2010 on Friday night by defeating last season's League champions Al Wahda 3-1 at Al Nasr's Al Maktoum Stadium, Dubai.

Two goals from Emirate's captain Karim Kerkar in 43rd and 88th minute gave the first division club victory over the favoured Al Wahda Club, in a dramatic season opener that included nine yellow cards and three send-offs.

Adnan Al Balushi put the first points on the board for Emirates in the 31st minute. Not long after, Kerkar beat Al Wahda's four man defence to slot the ball into the bottom left hand corner, putting Emirates 2-0 up at half time. Kerkar's second was a free kick that found its way into the top left hand corner from just outside the box to make it 3-0.

Al Wahda managed to get a point on the board thanks to Fernando Baiano in the 81st minute, but then a free kick by Kerkar sealed Al Wahda's fate a few minutes before full time.
