Al Jazira overcome Al Wahda with a solitary goal in Abu Dhabi derby
With a lone goal scored by Brazilian striker Jader Volnei (Bare) in the 65th minute, Al Jazira overcame their rivals Al Wahda in the Abu Dhabi derby match played this evening in the 9th round of the Etisalat Cup at Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Bare made no mistake in the penalty kick which referee Ibrahim Al Muhairi awarded to the winners as a result of the severe blunder committed by the loseres' goalkeeper Adil Al Hosani when he fouled Waleed Al Yamahi inside the six yard area. Al Hosani was shown the red card and his brother Ali Al Hosani replaced his teammate Zayed Al Khathiri. Al Jazira who have already secured a berth in the semifinals before this game, raised their tally to 22 points to stay on top of the second group while Al Wahda's balance was frozen at only nine points taking fifth position. The hosts put more pressure on their opponents' defense from the very start giving them hard time but could not score despite of the handful of chances they have created in the opening minutes. The visitors relied heavily on counter attacks, but could not threaten their rivals' goalkeeper Khalid Al Sinani. Both teams missed the efforts of some of their key players due to different reasons and Al Jazira Brazilian striker Bare was the only professional player who took part in this game. The encounter was a good chance for both coaches to field in a number of their reserve team players. The two squads found some opportunities through the entire time of the match but they failed to add more goals.
