Shehab Ahmed: Ready to fight for his Cup-winning ambition
Shehab Ahmed has the opportunity to win a title in his first season at Ajman having transferred from the purple kit of Al Ain to the orange of Ajman at the start of the 2012-2013 campaign, and it is not a chance he is willing to give up easily. The midfielder confirmed that the whole squad is well prepared for a challenging 90 minutes against Al Jazira at Al Wasl’s Zabeel Stadium on Tuesday night, and explained that lifting the Etisalat Cup would be the ideal culmination of all the players’ and coaching staff’s efforts throughout the season, led impressively by Iraqi head coach Abdulwahab Abdulkader. Speaking in the build-up to the big game, Shehab Ahmed said: “This is the second time in 5 years that Ajman has reached the final of the Etisalat Cup – both times against Al Jazira – and we came close to winning on the previous occasion but hope to go one better this time.”
The Ajman midfielder confirmed that he and all his teammates are dreaming of lifting the Cup, and on a personal level he hopes to be able to feature in the match having recently suffered an injury. “The truth is that all our players are very talented and we play together collectively very well as a unit, with a strong core of local players alongside our four foreign stars; Boris Kabi, who is third in the League’s top scorers list, and Founeke Sy, Fawzi Bashir and Driss Fettouhi, who have all had great seasons and bring a lot to the team,” Ahmed said. “As for Al Jazira, they are also characterized by a distinguished mix of foreign and local players, and we will treat them with the respect they deserve as one of the League’s top teams, but anything can happen in the space of a match. We will not give up on achieving our ambitions to win the Cup,” the midfielder stated, before calling on fans of both teams to turn out in numbers and support their sides to add to the exciting atmosphere of the Etisalat Cup Final.
