Saudi side Al Faisali snatch three valuable points beating Bani Yas 4-3

Bani Yas came back home with a 3-4 defeat by Saudi side Al Faisali in their fourth group match held tonight at the Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Stadium in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the GCC 28th edition Championship. Bani Yas, who played without their Egyptian midfielder Mohammad Aboutrika due to injury, started their campaign in this regional event earlier with a scoreless draw against Al Besaiteen from Bahrain.

The two sides demonstrated a balanced display exchanging fast attacks in their search for an early goal, but the visiting team Bani Yas were the first to make their dreams come true when midfielder Nawaf Mubarak sent a long pass to Segalese Andre Sengahor who crossed the ball into the six yard area for Christian Wilhelmsson to drive it home, giving his side a 1-0 lead only 15 minutes from the starting whistle. But one minute later the Jordanian striker Yaseen Al Bakheet brought the game into parity off a close-range left-footed shot to make it 1-1.

The two teams went on their attempts afterwards making every bit of effort looking for the winner but all their work was in vain after showing weak attacks and failing to register any real threats. Bani Yas looked the better side after dominating the game but their forwards could not convert their superiority in possession into a victory. The hosts also made some good work mostly on the left flank but their opponents’ defenders closed down quickly to keep the work to a minimum for goalkeeper Obaid Al Taweela. Bani Yas’ Swedish striker Wilhelmsson almost put his squad back into the lead but he was unhappy to see his shot rebound off the upright towards his teammate Sengahor, who lost balance, allowing a defender to clear the ball away following another attempt from Nawaf Mubarak one minute before the break to finish the first session with a 1-1 scoreline.

The second half was a totally different story as both teams restarted their work enthusiastically trying to increase their tally with continuous attacks, but they squandered all the opportunities that came their way. Yaseen Al Bakheet came to net a brace in the 58th minute with a quick attempt after rounding up defender Yousuf Jaber before sending the ball into the net. But Bani Yas’ defender Yousuf Jaber compensated for his error only seconds later with a strong volley to level the scores 2-2. The visitors’ coach brought Haboosh Saleh on to replace midfielder Nawaf Mubarak in the 65th minute. Yaseen Al Bakheet squandered a brilliant opportunity four minutes later before the Omani player Ismail Al Ajmi sent a powerful header into the net in the 72nd minute that beat keeper Obaid Al Taweela to make it 3-2. The Guinean player Nabi Somah put the game beyond reach scoring the fourth goal in the 79th minute. But Bani Yas refused to give up for Fawaz Awana to reduce the deficit with a fierce shot to make it 4-3 eight minutes from time.
