Al Wahda beat Al Wasl 4-0 to take 3rd spot

Al Wahda trounced Al Wasl with a 4-0 win in their match played tonight at Al Nahyan Stadium in the second day of the 12th week of the Etisalat Pro-League. The winners ended the first half leading 1-0 before adding three more goals after the break. They raised their tally to 18 points that helped them to move four steps forward to stay in the 3rd spot while the losers slipped to the 4th position.

The home team's defender Basheir Saeed put his side in the lead after scoring an early goal only 14 minutes into the game off a stand ball that went straight into the left hand side of Al Wasl's custodian Majid Nasr. The visitors put more pressure on their rivals trying to level the score and bring the game back to the first square. Al Wasl launched a number of dangerous raids and their Brazilian player Olivera was about to slam the ball home to make it 1-1 but his close-range perfect header was deflected by Al Wahda's goalie Motaz Abdullah to a corner in the 15th minute. Most of the work was concentrated in the midfield and both teams could not score more goals to end the first session 1-0 for Al Wahda.

The situation remained the same after the break with both squads exerting more efforts to find the target, but all their trials were in vain. But Al wahda's work was rewarded 7 minutes to the final minute when Ismail Mattar was sent clear, but Al Wasl's defender Ali Mahmoud brought him down inside the box for a penalty. The visitors's player Ali Mahmoud was given marching orders for his team to play the last 10 minutes including the injury time with ten players. Brazilian player Fernando Bayano failed to score off the first kick after goalkeeper Majed Naser saved bravely but the referee Hamad Al Sheikh repeated the kick for Bayano to slam the ball home this time scoring the second goal. Al Wasl's players were highly affected after conceding the second goal and this situation opened the door wide for the home team to add two more goals through the substitute Mohammed Al Shehy who netted the third goal in the 89th minute and his teammate Ismail Mattar sealed the result for Al Wahda when he received a perfect pass from Saeed Khamis to round up the goalkeeper before driving the ball into the empty net to make it 4-0 two minutes into the injury time.
