The Etisalat Pro League and Cup draw ceremony for the season 2012/2013

The Etisalat Pro League and Cup draw ceremony for the upcoming season 2012/2013 was held on Tuesday evening, August 15 at the National Center for Documentation & Research in the presence of a number of important sport dignitaries.


At the outset of the ceremony, HE Mohammed Thani Murshed Al Romaithi, Chairman of the Pro League Committee, Chairman of the Executive Office delivered a speech in which he thanked His Highness Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, Vice President of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the UAE Football Association Honorary President, for his unlimited support for the entire sport arena. Al Rumaithi welcomed the attendees including HE Mohammad Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairman of the General Authority of Youth & Sports Welfare, the General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Abdul-Mohsen Al Dosari Assistant Secretary General of the General Authority of Youth & Sports Welfare.


Al Rumaithi also praised in his speech the great support provided by the sponsoring companies of the Pro League Committee. He also hailed the distinctive and pioneer role played by the all UAE media through their broadcasting to the events and championships organized by the Pro League Committee.


Al Rumaithi presented commemorative shields to the committee sponsors including UAE Telecommunications Corporation - Etisalat represented by Ali Al-Ahmed, Executive Director of Corporate Communications in « Etisalat », Yakoob Al Saadi, Abu Dhabi Sports Channel Programs Director, representative of the channel, Hassan Habib, deputy director of Dubai Sports Channel, representative of the channel, Mazen Al Nashar representative of Audi Motors, Michael Chalhoub representative of Sport 360 English newspaper and lee Devon General Manager of  Nike Sports Company.


The veteran commentator, Adnan Hamad Al Hammadi presented the ceremony in the presence of H.E. Abdulla N. Al Junaibi, member of the Pro League Committee Board of Directors, member of the Executive Office and chairman of the Technical Committee who provided a detailed and comprehensive explanation about the draw mechanism in both the league and cup championships.


In the Etisalat Cup draw, the 14 teams were divided into 3 groups, headed by Al Ain, Al Jazira and Al Ahli consecutively where the first group includes Al Ain, Dubai, Al Wahda, Al Nasr and the second qualifier of the Quartet tournament to be held in early September. The second group includes Bani Yas, Al Wasl, Ittihad Kalba and the first qualifier of the Quartet tournament while the third group is composed of 4 teams led by Al Ahli and includes Ajman, Al Shabab and finally Dibba Al Fujairah.

The cup draw was also completed with draw on both legs of the semi-final as the top of the third category will face the best runner up team in the first game to be held at the former’s home ground, while the second game will be played between the leaders of the first and second groups at the former’s pitch.
 
Then the draw for the Etisalat Pro League 2012/2013, was completed taking into consideration the geographical location of the participating teams, so that when a team plays at home, the other team from the same city plays away. The 14 teams  were named afterwards  with the following numbers: Ittihad Kalba  7 - Dibba Al Fujairah 14 - Ajman 1 - Dubai 8 – Al Shabab 6 – Al Ahli 13 – Al Nasr 12 - Al Wasl 5 - the first qualifier 2 - the second qualifier 9 – Al Jazira 4 – Al Wahda 11 – Al Ain 3 - Bani Yas 10.
