Al Ain retain Etisalat Reserve League title with 1-0 win over Al Wahda
Al Ain’s second string mirrored the feat of their First Team counterparts by retaining the Etisalat Reserve League title for the 2012-2013 season with a 1-0 win over Al Wahda on Sunday night. The game, played at Al Ain’s home ground of the Tahnoun bin Mohamed Stadium, was decided by a 5th minute goal by rising star Yousef Ahmed to clinch the championship with one game remaining. The win gives Al Ain a total of 55 points after 25 games, meaning that second-placed Al Shabab are unable to catch them in the final match of the season next week. Al Wahda, meanwhile, stay fourth on 44 points.
Al Shabab were held to a 2-2 draw by Dubai at the Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium at the same time, giving the current runners-up 49 points whilst Dubai have 20 points and are second from bottom in the table. Al Nasr’s reserves recorded a 2-0 away win at Al Dhafra’s Hamdan bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi’s western region to give the Dubai-based club 42 points in 5th place, whilst Al Dhafra stay 3rd on 47. Al Wasl hit six past Al Shaab at the Zabeel Stadium, winning 6-2 to give the Dubai club 24 points in 11th place as Al Shaab remain rooted to the bottom with 17.
Dibba Al Fujairah scored freely as they hammered Kalba 5-0 at the Fujairah Stadium, giving the home side 32 points in 7th whilst Kalba stay 12th in the table with 22 points. Concluding Sunday evening’s Round 25 Reserve League action, Al Ahli’s second side beat Ajman 3-1 away at the Rashid bin Saeed Stadium to take the visitors to 34 points, moving up 3 places to 6th and as a result Ajman drop a position to 7th on 33. The remaining match of the round, between Al Jazira and Bani Yas, will be played at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday due to the rescheduling of the teams’ Etisalat Pro League match to accommodate Bani Yas’ participation in the Final of the Gulf Clubs Championship 28 competition.
