Etisalat Reserve League Round 20 Review
At the close of Round 20 of the Etisalat Reserve League, there are now three teams occupying the top three positions in the table all on the same points total of 37. Taking into account the goal difference between the three teams, Al Ain sit in first place, with Al Wahda in second and Al Shabab third, having all played 19 matches at this stage.
Saturday’s Reserve League games saw Al Dhafra beat Kalba 1-0 at the Kalba Union Sports & Cultural Club, with Al Dhafra in 4th place on 35 points and Kalba remaining bottom of the League with just 13. Al Wasl’s second string mirrored their first team counterparts in defeating Al Jazira, this time with a 1-0 scoreline, in a match played at the Zabeel Stadium. Al Wasl increased their tally to 17 points in 11th place, whilst Al Jazira are 5th in the table with 29 points. Bani Yas’ Reserve side fared better than the senior squad as they overcame Al Nasr by one goal to nil at the Bani Yas Stadium. The two teams both have 24 points now, with Al Nasr in 9th place and Bani Yas one below in 10th. Al Shabab beat League leaders Al Ain 1-0 at the Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium to bring them level on points, but Al Ain still retain top spot based on goal difference.
On Sunday, Dubai and Ajman played out a scoreless draw at the Dubai Stadium, which leaves Ajman 8th with 25 points and Dubai second from bottom with 15. Al Wahda were beaten 2-1 at the Al Nahyan Stadium by Dibba Al Fujairah, though they remain 2nd on 37 points, whilst Dibba increased their tally to 26 points in 7th. Al Ahli replicated the form of their first team, securing a 1-0 win over Al Shaab at the Khaled bin Mohamed Stadium, which puts the Red Knights on 28 points in 6th place whilst Al Shaab are 12th on 16.
