Al Wasl take runner up with a 2-1 win over Emirates

Al Wasl came back from Ras Alkhaimah with three invaluable points following their 2/1 win over Emirates in the match played at Ras Alkhaimah Stadium to take second position with 10 points, three points behind the forerunner Al Jazira. The Emirates Team lost their fourth successive match lagging at the bottom of the table with only 3 points from one win after beating Dubai.

Al Wasl, led by their legend Coach Diego Maradona, demonstrated a brilliant performance notably after the breather after fielding in Edson Push who scored the winner two minutes before the official time. On the other hand, the Emirates Team were the better side in the first session and their front liners Al Hassan Keita, York and Pejman Nouri squandered easy sitters which could have make them take the lead in the first half.

Nouri put the hosts into the lead only 29 minutes into play off a long ball which Al Wasl goalkeeper Majid Nasser could not control for Nouri to send it easily into the right hand side of the goalkeeper. Emirates continued their attacks which were led by Mohsine Moutaouali and Abdullah Ali from the midfield zone but were not appropriately exploited. In the last minute of the first half Al Wasl defender Wahid Ismail netted the equalizer with a perfect header off across ball sent by Essa Ali.

Al Wasl’s performance ameliorated after the break amid full domination of the midfield under the leadership of Donda who provided his both strikers Olivera and Porta with some good passes, with the latter squandering a number of easy chances in front of Ahmed  Al Shaji’s goalmouth. Emirates’s attacks did present the required challenge as in the first half and Majid Nasser of Al Wasl saved all the chances of their rivals.

Suddenly, as the game was heading towards its end, Al Wasl scored the winner off a dead ball switched by Donda for Push to send a rocket-like volley into the net albeit the heavy defense of the Emirates defenders.
