30 goals is the outcome of the sixth round matches
Al Jazira retained their leadership of the Etisalat Pro League to stay on top of the table with 16 points after a 4-1 win over Emirates in the sixth round match held at Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, to widen the difference between them and their nearest chasers Al Wasl and Al Ain to five points who were hindered with a draw by Al Shabab and Bani Yas respectively. Al Wasl and Al Ain have 11 points each and they are even equal in goal difference (each scored 10 goals and conceded 6) but Al Ain still have a postponed game in hand against Al Ahli scheduled for next week and a win for Al Ain will reduce the difference with Al Jazira to only two points.
The early goal scored by Emirates in the first minute did not affect the morale of the defending champions who recovered quickly scoring two goals in two minutes through Oliveira and Bare and Abdullah Jasim added the third midway of the first session. Oliveira did not imagine that the 4th goal he scored in the 92nd minute would put him on top of the scorers with a tally of 7 goals followed by Senegalese second-placed Ajman striker Ibrahima Tore with six goals.
The sixth round saw abundance of goals, as 30 goals were scored in the six games, with an average of five goals per game, the highest record since the start of the Etisalat League on October 15. The game of Sharjah and Al Nasr was the highest in terms of goals, in which nine goals were scored (5-4 for Al Nasr). The forward lines in the two teams were at the top of their levels, especially Amara Diane from Ivory Coast, who scored a hat-trick for Al Nasr, and the Brazilian duo Marcelinho and Edinho who shared Sharjah four goals, but the defense and goalkeepers appeared modest which forced immediate intervention from coaches to fill defense gaps and amend goalkeepers' shortcomings.
Three matches in the sixth round ended with the same 2-2 result: Al Wasl and Al Shabab, Bani Yas and Al Ain and then Al Ahli against Al Wahda.
It is noticeable that in the sixth round games, the team that scored first did not win, and this happened in all games except Al Nasr who scored first against Sharjah but emerged winners. The Emirates scored first against Al Jazira but failed to win and the same for Dubai, Al Shabab, Bani Yas and Al Wahda though they netted the first goal against Al Wasl, Al Ain and Al Ahli, but they came out with a draw.
One of the most surprising turn of events for this round is that Ajman have achieved their first win in the Etisalat Pro League after beating Dubai 3-1 at Al Aweer pitch, after five games in which they did not taste victory, to jump to 8th position, but Dubai are still looking for their first win as they received four defeats and two draws that put them at the bottom of the ladder with two points.
