Emirates hold Al Jazira to a 1-1 draw

Emirates held Al Jazira to a 1-1 draw in the Etisalat Cup sixth round played tonight at Emirates Club Stadium but in spite of this draw, Al Jazira are still on top of the ladder of Group "A" while Emirates team raised their balance to only five points at the bottom of the table. It was the first draw for the visiting team Al Jazira since the beginning of the competition and the second for the home squad Emirates who also held Al Ain in the third round at their pitch in Ras Al Khaimah by the same margin.

The two teams played a balanced game exerting more efforts to add more three points to their tally, but their front liners squandered a number of scoring chances through the entire time.

Emirates pressed hard from the word go and their efforts were soon rewarded when Moroccan substitute Mohsin Mitwali put them into the lead two minutes before the breather to end the first session with a 1-0 win for the home team.

Al Jazira recovered in the second half to build up many attacks but the hosts' defendefs spoiled all their attempts. They went on to give their opponents hard time and their work soon yielded the equalizer through Abdul Rahim Juma'a who headed home the ball switched from the left edge of the box by his teammate Delgado to make it 1-1 in the 58th minute.

Both teams continued their hard work but they lost all they chances they created. Brazilian Ricardo Oliveira came close to score the equalizer in the 73rd minute when he collected the ball and penetrated inside the box. He launched a strong volley but for his bad fortune it rebounded off the cross bar and cleared away by a defender. The hosts also created some dangerous attacks in the last minutes but they could not score to end the match with a 1-1 result. Harib Mohammad was shown the red card in the 66th minute after collecting the second yellow card.
