Emirates 2-3 Dubai: Late winner sinks Emirates

Dubai grabbed a winning goal right at the death to defeat Emirates 3-2 at Al Shaab’s Khaled bin Mohamed Stadium in Round 2 of the Arabian Gulf League on Friday evening. The win signals Dubai’s first points in this season’s competition, whilst Emirates followed their opening day win with a second round loss.

Bruno Cesar made it two in two for his new side Dubai, opening the scoring for the visitors in the 20th minute after an assist from new signing Dramane Traore. Summer signing Jair also kept up his scoring record for Emirates by netting in the second consecutive League game to level the scores at 1-1 in the 34th minute, but the parity only lasted two minutes as Dramane Traore marked his Dubai debut with a goal from the penalty spot to give his new team a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute, which they carried into half time.

In the second half Emirates squared things up again as Rodrigo Souza’s assist allowed Hadif Saif Ahmed to score in the 74th minute, making it 2-2. But there was a late twist in the tale as Dubai snatched a winner in the fourth minute of injury time at the end of the game. Substitute Khalid Hussain was the player to net the last-gasp winner and give Dubai their first victory of the Arabian Gulf League season.
