Emarat beat Al Rayyan of Qatar 2-0; Al Wahda snatch a point

 AL Wahda came back home with a valuable point after holding hosts team Piroozi of Iran to a 1-1 draw in their AFC Champions League second round match played tonight at Piroozi Stadium in Iran. Al Wahda raised their tally to two points that see them in third position. Both teams played a balanced first half, but most of the work was concentrated at the midfield zone. The two squads created a few number of scoring chances, but failed to find the back of the net to end the first session with a goalless draw.

The visiting team made some good efforts after the break trying to surprise the home team with a sudden goal and at the same time keeping an eye on their back line. Al Wahda's attempts were soon yielded the match's first goal when Hassan Amin capitalized on Ismail Matarr's perfect pass. Amin received the ball on the left flank, rounded the home team's full right back before sending a fierce right footer that went straight into the far left corner giving his side a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the second half. Mohammed Al Shehhy was close to add the second goal nine minutes later off Hugo's pass. He collected the ball inside the box, rounded the goalkeeper Rahman Rahmeti, but instead of driving it into the empty net, he sent it over the cross bar squandering a golden chance.

The hosts pressed hard trying to level the score with Al Wahda players defending brilliantly, relying only on counter attacks. The Iranians organized a quick and dangerous attack which resulted in netting the equalizer through Hussein Badamaki in the 65th minute following a number of accurate passes. The home squad put more pressure on the visitor's defense afterwards looking for the winner, but their rivals' defenders stood solid on their way and spoiled all their attempts to end the game with a 1-1 result.

On the other hand, debutant Emarat team maintained their first win at the Asian level this evening after beating Al Rayyan of Qatar 2-0 at Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium in Ras Al Khaimah. It was the first win for the UAE teams in the 2011 AFC Champions League.

The home squad, backed with a big mass of spectators, controlled the major parts of the game. Their Moroccan player Nabil Al Daoudi gave them the lead only 4 minutes into the match and his teammate Hadif Saif made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute with a perfect header off a corner kick to end the first half with the same result.

The visitors tried hard to recover after the break but they couldn't. The two teams continued their attacks in the second session creating a number of scoring chances but failed to add more goals to finish the tie with the first half two goals for the hosts who opened their account with three valuable points.
