Dubai snatch full points to jump over Al Wahda

With a late goal scored two minutes into injury time by Mohammad Ibrahim, Dubai beat Al Wahda 2-1 in the Etisalat Cup sixth round match held this evening at the winners' pitch in Al Aweer who raised their tally to 9 points against six points for Al Wahda.

The losers played the game missing a number of their key players who were recently in National duty with the UAE Senior team in Kuwait. The two teams played a balanced game, but it was only 10 minutes into play before the hosts take the lead via Hassan Mohammad off a perfect pass from the Uzbek player Bakaev for Hassan to send it home. Al Wahda Austrian coach Hecksberger made an early substitute pulling out Brazilian Hugo and fielding in Ibrahim Al Alawi in the 36th minute. The visitors' Brazilian striker Bayano leveled the score in the 39th minute with a strong header to end the first session with a 1-1 draw and Mohammad Ibrahim put the match beyond the reach of Al Wahda players when he netted the winner in the 92nd minute.

Both teams squandered a number of scoring chances through Bayano of Al Wahda and Bakaev, Hassan Mohammad and Abu Bakr Kamara from Dubai. Mahmoud Khamis from Al Wahda came close to score but his strong rocket-like shot hit the cross bar and cleared away by a defender in the 34th minute.

At the start of the second half, Dubai showed good performance but lost two successive sitters for the two squads to concentrate their work on the midfield zone without any dangerous attacks till the 56th minute.

Bayano was almost to score the winner for Al Wahda in the 77th minute but Dubai's goalkeeper Jamal Abdullah saved bravely and deflected the ball to a corner. Kamara replied with a strong shot but Al Wahda's goalie saved brilliantly for a corner kick in the 86th minute before Mohammad Ibrahim snatch the three valuable points for Dubai after scoring the winner into the additional time.
