Decisive matches in the Etisalat Cup sixth round

 

The Etisalat Cup sixth round matches for this season will be played on Thursday and Friday, January 3 and 4, 2013 which its outcome might reveal the features of the semifinals of the championship. Al Wasl will host Ittihad Kalba in the first day at Zabeel Stadium in Dubai; kick off at 4:55pm. The hosts are on top of Group B with a record of 9 points and are seeking a win to retain their top position, while Kalba are taking this game as a good opportunity to prepare their squad for the Etisalat Pro League second round matches after they have collected one point in Etisalat Cup Competition that completely dashed their hopes to qualify to the semi-finals and put them at the bottom of the group.

In the second match of the same day, the home team Dibba Al Fujairah will face their counterparts Ajman within Group C program at Al Fujairah Stadium at 4:50pm. The game might be the last chance for the hosts to keep their hopes alive in qualifying to the semifinals, note that Al Shabab are sitting on top of this group with 7 points followed by Ajman with 6 points, Dibba Al Fujairah with 3 points and then defending champions Al Ahli who are at the bottom of the standings with one point. The match is of great importance for Ajman, who are trying to win and regain lead and then wait to see the outcome of a Al Ahli – Al Shabab match due to kick off the next day.

The matches of the first day will be concluded with a thrilling game in Group A between Al Wahda and Al Nasr at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi, kick off ay 8:00pm. The hosts are leading the group with 10 points and they hope to continue their successful march, keep the difference of points and stay ahead to their group closest competitors, Al Ain, and then snatch the Etisalat Cup Championship after being far behind in the Etisalat Pro League, while Al Nasr are trying to maintain their second win in a row and move closer as they are third with 5 points.

 

In the second day, Dubai will take on Al Shaab in a foregone conclusion match in Group A as Dubai are in fourth place with 3 points, while the home team are bottom of the group with  only one point. Bani Yas will host their counterparts Al Dhafra at 5:00pm in a disengagement encounter after collecting 6 points each in Group B. Both teams are looking for a win as a draw will not help each of them to qualify to the semifinals.

The matches of this round will be concluded with a match between Al Ahli who are at the bottom of Group C and Al Shabab who are endeavouring to remain on top of the group and qualify to the semifinals, while the match is of no importance for the defending champions  Al Ahli who have collected one point that classify them in the last place.
