Preview: Etisalat Cup Group Stage comes to a close with Match Day 10
Sunday sees the final six matches of the group stage of the Etisalat Cup take place, and although some games are already a foregone conclusion, several teams still have plenty to play for. There are only two clubs who are not in action today; Al Wahda, as they have already completed their group matches and find themselves top of Group A with 19 points, successfully qualifying for the semi-finals, and Al Wasl, who have also played all their group matches but failed to progress out of Group B.
Four games kick off at 5:45pm with Al Nasr hosting Dubai at the Al Maktoum Stadium, with neither team able to qualify to the next stage from Group A, so it is likely that they will field understrength sides and give their First Team regulars a rest. The side at the bottom of Group A - Al Shaab - welcome Al Ain to the Khaled bin Mohamed Stadium, with the visitors relying upon the result of Ajman v Al Shabab in Group C to enable their progression, with Al Ain needing a win from Ajman to make it out of the group. In Group B, Kalba play at home against Bani Yas, and Al Jazira travel to Al Dhafra’s Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Stadium, also in Group B, with Al Jazira having already secured qualification out of the group stage.
The late kick-offs at 8:30pm see Al Ahli play host to Dibba Al Fujairah at the Rashid Stadium, and Al Shabab visit Ajman, both in Group C. Al Ahli and Dibba Al Fujairah have nothing to play for as neither can qualify, and the result between Ajman and Al Shabab will be crucial to decide who makes it out of Group C as the two teams are separated at the top by only one point, on 12 points and 11 points respectively.
