Al Ain defeat Dubai 5-2 to remain on top position; Al Nasr overcome Dibba Al Fujairah 3-1

Al Ain demonstrated a brilliant display in the Etisalat Pro League ninth round match held at Al Aweer Stadium this evening, beating Dubai 5-2. The winners added three more points to raise their tally to 22 points to remain on top of the standings while the losers are in 7th position with 13 points.

Al Ain’s midfielder Omer Abdulrahman squandered an early sitter when he was sent free but his weak volley was easily controlled by the goalkeeper Jamal Abdullah. But one minute later the Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan compensated for the lost chance when he capitalized on the severe blunder committed by the hosts’ keeper giving the visitors an early lead. Inspired by this goal, Al Ain pressed hard to double their advantage and their efforts were soon paid dividends when the Australian front liner Alex Prosque made it 2-0 with a strong shot that beat the advancing custodian.

Dubai tried their best to come back into the game but they failed to create dangerous attacks, unlike Al Ain who dominated the match and built up a number of opportunities. Despite of this situation, Hassan Ali the left fullback, reduced the deficit with a perfect header in the 31st minute. But Dubai’s joy did not live long as Omer Abdulrahman netted the third goal three minutes later. Omer made things difficult for the home team when he drove the ball home that rebounded from the goalkeeper following a left footer fired by Alex Prosque two minutes before the break to give his side a 4-1 first half lead.

Al Ain continued their superiority over the hosts after the interval. Dubai’s players went all out and their Australian attacker Richard Porta was unhappy to see his shot rebound off the upright in the 66th minute. The winners’ substitute Ali Al Wihabi was fouled inside the box for a penalty only seconds later and Asamoah Gyan made no mistake to make it 5-1. Al Ain’s Romanian coach Olario Cosmin made his second substitution bringing on Yaagoub Al Hosani to replace Mohammed Abdulrahman in the 69th minute.

Dubai went on their attempts with all the hope to score more goals and their dreams came true when Richard Porta scored his personal and team’s second goal six minutes to time to end the game with a 5-2 win for Al Ain.

In the second match played at Al Maktoum Stadium, Al Nasr kept Dibba Al Fujairah in the penultimate place defeating them 3-1. Mascara, Bruno Cesar and Humaid Abbas scored for Al Nasr in the 12th, 72nd and 80th minutes respectively while Luiz Fernando netted Dibba Al Fujairah lone goal in the 64th minute. Al Nasr are runners up with 20 points and Dibba Al Fujairah are second from the bottom with only four points.
