Dubai beat Sharjah with a lone goal
Dubai added three valuable points to their balance after beating Sharjah with a lone goal in the encounter played today evening at the winners' Stadium in the concluding day of round 15 of the Etisalat Pro-League Competition. The winners raised their tally to 16 points to take 9th spot, a balanced which pushed Al Ain's team one step downward to stay in 10th position.
Dubai took superiority over the visiting team in the major parts of the first half. They were able to reach their rivals' goal area many times, creating some chances, but they failed to score while Sharjah applied a defensive tactics depending on counter attacks. They could not threaten their opponents as most of their raids were weak. The two teams ended the first session with a goalless draw.
The hosts along with their rivals, recovered after the break playing a balanced game. But Dubai looked the most dangerous side after demonstrating a neat and brilliant display. Their efforts were soon paid dividends when their French player Michael Laurent was brought down inside the penalty area by Sharjah's defender Fayez Juma'a. Hassan Mohammed made no mistake when he converted the ball into the net giving his side a 1- 0 lead after only 17 minutes into the second session. The same player came close to score an early goal in the 57th minute when he faced Sharjah's custodian Mahmoud Al Mas but he shot wide.
The visitors made good efforts in the last minutes but all their work was in vain. Their Brazilian player Marcelo squandered a golden chance in the 91st minute when he headed the ball from inside the six yard area but Dubai's goalie deflected it to a corner. Despite of the six minutes given by the referee as additional time, but both teams failed to add more goals.
