The Arabian Gulf League and Cup Draw Ceremony 2013/2014
The Arabian Gulf League and Cup competition Draw Ceremony for the upcoming 2013/2014 season was held on Friday 26th July at the headquarters of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare in Dubai, attended by H.E. Ibrahim Abdulmalik, General Secretary of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, H.E. Yousuf Yaqoob Al Serkal, President of the UAE Football Association, and H.E. Mohammed Thani Murshed Al Romaithi, Chairman of the Pro League Committee and Chairman of the Executive Office, who delivered an opening speech to the audience of esteemed guests to kick off the draw ceremony.
Osama Amiri, Master of Ceremonies for the event, then introduced H.E. Abdulla N. Al Junaibi, member of the Pro League Committee’s Board of Directors, member of the Executive Office and chairman of the Technical Committee, who provided a detailed and comprehensive explanation of the draw mechanism for both the League and Cup competitions. H.E. Al Junaibi was joined by Al Ain striker Asamoah Gyan, Al Ahli striker Grafite, Ajman striker Boris Kabi and Al Jazira goalkeeper Ali Khaseif to do the draw for the 2013/2014 season’s Cup competition.
The Cup competition, which will take a new format for the 2013/2014 season, was first up to be drawn. The fourteen clubs were drawn into two groups of seven teams by Boris Kabi, Ali Khaseif and Grafite, with the groups shaping up as follows:
Group A: Al Ain, Bani Yas, Al Wahda, Al Shaab, Sharjah, Al Jazira, Dubai
Group B: Ajman, Al Nasr, Al Shabab, Al Dhafra, Emirates, Al Ahli, Al Wasl
The ceremony was concluded with the draw for the 2013/2014 Arabian Gulf League season, which was done by H.E. Ibrahim Aadel from the Dubai Expo 2020 delegation, Mahdi Ali, Head Coach of the UAE National Team, and Asamoah Gyan, Al Ain striker and the League’s top scorer for the past two consecutive seasons. According to the draw the 14 teams were allocated the following numbers:
1. Al Wahda. 2. Al Nasr 3. Al Ahli 4. Emirates 5. Bani Yas 6. Al Ain 7. Sharjah 8. Al Jazira 9. Al Wasl 10. Al Shabab 11. Ajman 12. Al Dhafra 13. Dubai 14. Al Shaab
