Al Shaab secure 1-0 win at Dibba Al Fujairah in crucial clash

In a clash of two relegation-threatened clubs, it was Al Shaab who came out on top and secured a vital win in their bid for survival. The Etisalat Pro League Round 16 match, which took place at the Fujairah Stadium, was hotly contested as both sides fight for their lives in the League, but Al Shaab can breathe a small sigh of relief as, although they haven’t changed positions in the standings, their newly-increased points tally of 10 puts some distance between them and the bottom two clubs. Meanwhile Dibba Al Fujairah remain on 7 points, glued to the bottom of the table.

With both teams desperate for a win, it was the visitors who took the lead through a sweet right-footed strike from Hassan Maatouq, putting Al Shaab 1-0 up in the 29th minute. Despite an end-to-end game, the score remained 1-0 as the teams headed into the dressing rooms at half time.

As the second half kicked off, both sides continued to attack, with Dibba Al Fujairah searching for an equaliser and Al Shaab hoping to put victory beyond doubt. However, as the game progressed Al Shaab made the decision to change their style of play slightly as they replaced midfielder Ibrahim Khalil Abdulla with defender Mohamed Ahmed Yousef; a defensive tactic to try and hold onto their 1-0 lead. Dibba Al Fujairah also made a change in the 82nd minute, replacing Alexssander Medeiros with Najem Mohamed Ahmed as they desperately tried to get something from the game. However the visitors stood firm and it was Al Shaab that left the stadium with all three points.
