Al Wasl defeat Bani Yas 2-1 to stay on top of the ladder

 

Al Wasl continued their successful march maintaining their second successive win after beating the home team Bani Yas 2-1 in the second round match of the Etisalat Pro-League held tonight at the losers' Stadium in Al Shamkha. The winners raised their tally to six points to stay on top of the ladder while Bani Yas are sitting in 8th position with a single point.

Darweesh Ahmed put the visiting team into the lead only seven minutes from the word go with a strong header off a flag kick switched by Donda and Oliveira made it 2-0 three minutes later. Saoud Saeed collected the ball and ran down the left flank before crossing in front of the goal mouth for the unmarked Oliveira to send it into the net despite of Bani Yas goalkeeper's unsuccessful attempt. 

The visitors controlled the game afterwards and they came close to add more goals in many occasions. The 38 minute saw one of the most dangerous opportunities in the first session when Rashid Essa crossed the ball inside the six yard area but it hit the left upright. The same player squandered another sitter when his colleague Saoud Saeed crossed the ball inside the box, but Essa failed to score to end the first half with a 2-0 lead for Al Wasl.

Amer Abdul Rahman pulled one back to reduce the deficit six minutes after the interval capitalizing on Sangahoor's lovely header. Al Wasl tried afterwards to retain their lead while the home team made every bit of effort to come back to the match. They put more pressure on their rivals' defense but they lost all the chances that came their way. 

French star Trezeguet squandered two successive chances when he was only a few meters from Al Wasl's goal. Amer Abdul Rahman sent him a brilliant pass two minutes after scoring his team's first goal, Trezeguet faced the goalkeeper Majid Naser, but he shot wide. He also received another perfect pass from Sengahoor off a header but he sent the ball near the left upright.

The two coaches Diego Maradona and Vieira made some substitutions in the second half. Amer Abdul Rahman came close to level the score when he saw the advancing goalie Majid Naser to send a long shot, but Naser was able to tip the ball to a corner in the 68th minute. Abdullah Abdul Rahman of Al Wasl also lost a lovely chance five minutes to time and Bani Yas's substitute Sultan Al Ghaferi was unlucky to see his volley hit one of the Al Wasl's players before hitting the cross bar in the last minute for a corner.
