Bani Yas beat Qatar's Al Khor to win the Gulf Clubs Championship 28

Bani Yas were crowned Champions of the Gulf Clubs Championship 28 following their deserved victory over Qatari team Al Khor with goals from Egyptian star striker Mohammed Aboutrika and Nawaf Mubarak in the second leg encounter held on Thursday night at the Bani Yas Stadium. Having drawn 1-1 away at Al Khor in Doha last week, the 2-0 home victory saw Bani Yas ease to the title with a 3-1 victory on aggregate, securing silverware to cap a fine season for the Sky Blue side.

The hosts made a strong start giving the visiting squad a hard time trying to score an early goal, and Senegalese striker Andre Senghor tried his luck with a powerful header but for his bad fortune the ball was deflected to a corner kick. Mohammed Aboutrika made the breakthrough for Bani Yas when he fired a strong volley in the 26th minute to give his side a 1-0 lead. Senghor squandered a sitter six minutes later when his shot rebounded off the cross bar. The two teams made some good efforts afterwards but failed to find the back of the net to end the first half with Bani Yas sitting on a 1-0 lead.

The visitors played the last 11 minutes of the game with ten players after Reda Shanbeh was given his marching orders for a second booking. Bani Yas capitalised on the one-man advantage by doubling their lead when Nawaf Mubarak netted the second goal with a screamer of a strike following a set piece switched by Mohammed Aboutrika just inside the box to secure a 2-0 win for Bani Yas; winning the Gulf Clubs Championship trophy for the first time in their history.
