Bani Yas name Jorge da Silva as new Head Coach
Bani Yas have named Jorge da Silva as the Club’s new Head Coach. The Uruguayan coach will be presented to the media in a press conference at Bani Yas on Thursday before beginning his preparations for pre-season, which is due to start in mid-June. A statement released by Bani Yas’ Board of Directors confirmed that da Silva was chosen to lead the Club forward following extensive research from the Technical Committee, who whittled down a shortlist of candidates before appointing the 51-year-old.
Da Silva’s playing career spanned twenty years, occupying the position of striker at several high-profile clubs including Spain’s Real Valladolid and Atletico Madrid, and Argentina’s River Plate, as well as being capped 26 times for Uruguay. His managerial career began in 2007 at Defensor in Uruguay, with whom he won the Uruguayan league title, before spending a season between 2009-2010 at Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr. Jorge da Silva then went on to manage Argentine clubs Godoy Cruz and Banfield before moving to Penarol in Uruguay in 2012 and leading them to win the Uruguayan league and cup double last season.
