Bani Yas sign a one-season contract with Hercules' star David Trezeguet
After tough negotiations, Bani Yas Club who finished runner-up in the 2010/11 UAE Etisalat Pro League Championship, has succeeded in signing a one-season contract with David Trezeguet (33 years), the former France and Juventus striker for €1.7 million (Dh9.1m) on a free transfer from the Spanish Club Hercules.
Saif Obaid Al Khaili Deputy Chairman of Bani Yas' Board of Directors signed on behalf of the club in the presence of some Bani Yas's officials.
Trezeguet had transferred from Juventus to play for the Spanish club Hercules who relegated from Spain's Premier League last season despite of the 12 goals scored by Trezeguet. Bani Yas's new player arrived to Abu Dhabi earlier with his agent, Antonio Caliendo and they reached a compromise with the club's officials before the player undergoing a medical test which proved his physical fitness to lead the team in the upcoming season. He has become the latest big name to join the UAE domestic league and he is supposed to form a successful paire in the attack line with the UAE domestic league and he is supposed to form a successful paire in the attack line with the Senegalese striker Andre Sengahoor, who bagged the scorers' title last season after scoring18 goals. Senghor came close to transfer in this summer to the European Norway club Alesunds FK but Bani Yas, however, refused to give him the green light. Trezeguet had spent ten seasons with the Italian football squad Juventus, scoring 138 goals in 245 appearances and he signed for Bani Yas despite of the interest shown by some European clubs from Italy, France and England like Nice, Aston Villa and his home side Monaco as well as Napoli.
David Trezeguet, the French World Cup-winning striker, had led his country's National Football Team to capture the 1998 World Cup and he also scored the decisive goal in Euro 2000 final against Italy.
Trezeguet's deal was considered the most high-profile signing by any club in the three-year history of the domestic league.
Saif Obaid Al Khaili said that the deal with the French striker is not only a gain for his new club Bani Yas, but it is also a big addition for the UAE competitions.
The player left back home after signing the deal and he will come and join the team's trainings by the mid of the next week.
