Bani Yas overcome Saudi Al Nasr 2 / 1 in the opening match of the International Tournament
Bani Yas's second international friendly football Championship was launched on Tuesday night August 16th with the participation of Al Nasr of Saudi Arabia, Sfaxien of Tunisia and the Syrian army. The tournament, which comes as part of the team's Preparations for the competitions at the local and Asian levels in the upcoming season, will be concluded on August 23rd. Bani Yas will take part in the AFC Club Champions League after finishing as runner-up in the Etisalat Pro-League last season.
In the opening match which was held yesterday at Al Shamkha Stadium, Bani Yas Football Team have collected their first three points in the championship after beating Saudi Al Nasr 2/1. Sharjah former player Nawaf Mubarak who signed a contract with Bani Yas recently, opened the score five minutes into play and Fareed Ismail added the second goal in the 47th minute while Mohammad Al Sahlawi reduced the deficit scoring his team's lone goal in the 61st minute. The Omani player Fawzi Basheir squandered a penalty kick for the home squad when he sent a weak ball which was easily controlled by the goalkeeper.
The competition will continue tonight with a single game where Sfaxien will meet the Syria Army at 10:30pm in the second match of the first round of the tournament. The four participating teams will get a one-day rest on Thursday before they come back to continue their struggle on Friday, August 19th where Bani Yas will take on the Syrian Army in the second round games, followed by the Saudi Al Nasr and Sfaxien of Tunisia match. The competition will be concluded next week with Al Nasr facing the Syrian army on August 22nd and Bani Yas battle it out against Sfaxien of Tunisia on August 23rd.
