Bani Yas overcome hosts Sharjah 5-3 to chase leaders Al Jazira
Bani Yas kept their chase to the Etisalat Pro-League leaders Al Jazira with a difference of two points following their 5-3 win over the home squad Sharjah in the match played tonight, Monday December 13 in the 9th week of the Etisalat Pro-League at the losers' pitch. The winners are classified as runners-up with a balance of 21 points after maintaining their seventh victory so far, while the losers are in the 7th position with 11 points.
It took the visiting team only four minutes from the word go to take the lead with Sangahoor's perfect header who capitalized off a long ball switched by Amir Abdul Rahman from a long distance. This early goal gave Bani Yas more confidence that helped them to control the match and put more pressure on their hosts. Diyab Awana made it 2-0 when he sent a rocket-like shot off another stand ball that beat Sharjah's custodian Mahmoud Al Amas who failed to stop the ball ten minutes before the break
The visitors continued their brilliant display looking for more goals whereas their hosts tried to reduce the deficit. Their midfielder Fawzi Basheir from Sultanate of Oman came close to score the third goal five minutes into the second half but his fierce shot rebounded off the cross bar before being cleared away by a defender. But his teammate Mohammed Fawzi came to compensate for the squandered chance scoring the third goal for the visitors in the 63rd minute. Mohammed Sroor pulled one back for Sharjah in the 77th minute to make it 3-1. The two teams scored four goals in the last 14 minutes through Fawzi Basheir who added Bani Yas's fourth goal in the 78th minute before Brazilian Gustavo made it 4-2 seven minutes later with a header. Nawaf Mubarak netted a brilliant goal with a left footer one minute into the additional time to reduce the deficit. But again Amir Abdul Rahman of Bani Yas added to the woes of the losers when he sealed the result for his side scoring the fifth goal in the 92nd minute. Mohamed Sroor was shown the red card 3 minutes before the final whistle.
In the second match played earlier in the day, AL Dhafra came back to the Western region with a valuable point after holding their hosts Al Nasr to a 1-1 draw in the match played at Al Maktoum stadium to raise their tally to eight points that see them in the 10th position. It was the first draw for Al Nasr since the start of the competition. They have won only three games before and lost five times to collect 10 points, the same balance of Al Ain, to stay in the 9th place, two points ahead of Al Dhafra. The two goals were scored after the break with the home team taking the lead in the 65th minute when Khalid Sabeel came from behind to receive a lovely pass inside the box and he did not hesitate to drive the ball home. But Al Dhafra's joyful moments did not live long as the visitors succeeded to equalize the game three minutes later when Nigerian player Abbas Moya made no mistake off a penalty. Boris Kabi lost two sitters for Al Dhafra when he received a perfect pass, rounded up Al Nasr's goalkeeper Ismail Rabei but he failed to slam the ball into the empty net in the 24th minute. He was also unlucky to see his header rebounded off the upright four minutes before the end of the first session. The Ecuadorian player Carlos Tennerio also lost an opportunity for Al Nasr when he faced Al Dafra's goalie but shot wide five minutes into the second session.
