Al Wahda overcome Sharjah with a lone goal
With a solitary goal scored by their Brazilian striker Fernando Baiano three minutes before the break, Al Wahda overcame Sharjah to snatch three invaluable points that helped them to jump to second position provisionally after raising their tally to 12 points before Al Ain- Al Wasl match. The game was held this evening at Al Nahyan Stadium within the Etisalat Pro League 7th round matches. The losers are still far behind taking 10th spot with only four points.
The two teams demonstrated a male display in front of a few number of spectators. The hosts made some good efforts from the start and tried their best to score the first goal and their efforts were soon rewarded when left fullback Mahmoud Khamis received the ball on the left flank, switched it just inside the box for Baiano to jump high and headed it home into the right hand side of the goalkeeper only 8 minutes into play. Sharjah went all out afterwards for the equalizer but they lost all the chances that came their way to end the first session with a 1-0 for the hosts.
The visiting team doubled their efforts after the breather with all the hope to bring the game to parity, but they couldn't despite of the continuous pressure they put on the home team's defense. They came close to score in many occasions but Al Wahda custodian Motaz Abdullah spoiled all their attempts with his brilliant performance. Both teams went on to add more goals but they failed to end the game with a 1-0 victory for Al Wahda
