Al Wahda beat Dubai 2-1 to remain on top of Group “A”

Al Wahda snatched three points following their 2-1 win over their counterparts Dubai in the Etisalat Cup fourth round match held tonight at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi to retain their leadership of Group “A” with a record of 10 points against four points for the losers who are in third position. The two teams played with great care in the opening minutes without creating real chances. Marcelinho of Al Wahda missed the first sitter off a perfect head when Dubai goalkeeper Ahmad Salem diverted the ball to a corner in the 22nd minute and he squandered another opportunity four minutes later when his volley hit the upright. Both teams tried their best to add more goals in the remaining time of the first session but they failed with Dubai relying heavily on counter attacks.

Al Hassan Keita gave Dubai the lead only two minutes after the break off a strong shot, and his teammate Mohammed Ibrahim came close to add the second goal in the 51st minute but Al Wahda defense cleared the ball away. Marcelinho brought the game to the first square when he struck in the 52nd minute with a perfect header. But the Brazilian striker missed a penalty kick afterwards when he was fouled inside the box by Mohammed Jamal for the substitute goalie Yousuf Ahmad to save bravely in the 63rd minute. The Croatian player Sardan net the winner two minutes to time to secure three valuable points for Al Wahda.
