Al Wahda top the table provisionally; Kalba maintain first win

Al Wahda are sitting on top of the table provisionally following a two straight goals win over their counterparts Dibba Al Fujairah in the Etisalat Pro League seventh round match played this evening at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The winners took their tally to 15 points to regain leadership while Dibba Al Fujairah moved one step downward to take last position with one point after Ittihad Kalba beat Al Dhafra 2-1 in the same round.

The hosts dominated the game from the very start through the movements of their players Senegalese Papa Waigo, Brazilian Marcelinho along with Ismail Mattar and Mohammed Al Shehhy. Marcelinho squandered a scoring chance for his side only 14 minutes into play when his volley flew over the cross bar. Dibba Al Fujairah’s  Brazilian attacker replied with a sever shot five  minutes later that deflected by the keeper Adil Al Hosani to a corner kick. Mohammed Al Shehhy was fouled in the 32nd minute inside the six yard area by defender Essa Ali for a penalty and Hamdan Al Kamali made no mistake sending the ball into the right hand side of Dibba’s goalkeeper Mohammed Al Alrowaihy to end the first session with a 1-0 lead for the home team.

Dibba Al Fujairah recovered after the break making good efforts and their striker Al Exander came close to level the scores in the 65th minute but his header was saved by Al Wahda’s goalie.

Al Wahda also missed a lovely chance in the 78th minute when their strikers failed to benefit off Esmail Mattar’s nice cross. Adil Sulaiman netted the winner five minute to official time with a strong shot to secure three valuable points to his team.

On the other hand, the Moroccan striker Nabil Al Daoudi scored a brace to help his team Ittihad Kalba maintain their first victory in the season when they defeated the visiting team Al Dhafra 2-1 at their home ground in Sharjah. Al Daoudi opened the scores in the 9th minute and the Omani midfielder Fawzi Basheir brought the match into parity in the 24th minute. But Al Daoudi came after the breather to score the winner two minutes into stoppage time to take his side one step forward in 13th place whereas the losers have collected nine points so far.
