Al Ain and Al Wahda draw goalless to share points

Both Al Wahda and Al Ain shared the points of their Etisalat Cup third round match held today evening at Tahnoun bin Mohammed Stadium in Qattara. The visitors, Al Wahda, retained their leadership of Group “A” with seven points from three games while the hosts, Al Ain, collected four points to stay in the second position.

The two teams played below the par and their performance was highly affected by the absence of their regulars due to national duties and injuries. The game was a good chance for the two coaches to test and prepare some of their substitutions and reserve team players for any unseen circumstances. The players of the two squads failed to threaten the two keepers and all their work was in vain. The only real opportunity in the first session was squandered by Al Ain’s right wing Ali Al Wihaibi when his team mate Hilal Saeed switched the ball behind the defenders for Al Wihaibi to find himself with only the goalkeeper to beat, but he failed to score sending the ball into the hands of Al Wahda’s goalie Adil Al Hosani in the 24th minute. Al Wihaibi came to lose another sitter five minutes before the break.

The two teams continued their poor display in the second half. They lost a number of chances through Ali Al Wihabi and Mohammed Nasser from Al Ain and Marcelo, Tawfeeq Abdulrazak and Salem Saleh from Al Wahda due to lack of concentration and bad shooting. Despite of the number of attempts, but the situation remained the same till the end of the official time.
