Al Wasl overcome Kalba 3-2 with a late goal

 

Dubai-based Al Wasl preserved their third spot in the Etisalat Pro-League Competition following their 3-2 victory over Kalba in Round 17 encounter played this evening at the losers' ground. A late goal scored by Khalifa Abdullah two minutes before the final whistle secured a deserved victory for the visiting team. Both teams remain in their previous position with Al Wasl in 4th spot on 27 points and the home team in 10th place with 14 points.

The two squads demonstrated an attacking and open game with all the hope to snatch a win and add three valuable points to their balance in order to better their positions in the league standings.

The visitors made good control of the game for most parts of the first session and their hard efforts were soon rewarded when their dynamic player Essa Rashid put them into the lead in the 31st minute to end the first half with a 1-0 result for his side.

The hosts recovered after the break to upgrade their performance creating some scoring opportunities. Their striker Saeed Faraj netted the equalizer four minutes into the second half to make it 1-1. But Al Wasl's Brazilian Oliveira front liner scored his team's second goal in the 61st minute to take a 2-1 lead. Ibrahim Abdullah leveled the score when he converted the penalty awarded to Kalba 10 minutes later. But it was Khalifa Abdullah who gave Al Wasl three points when he slammed the ball home off a long-range drive.
