Al Dhafra surprise Al Wasl with a 4-0 victory
Al Dhafra came back to the Western Region with three valuable points when they overcame the home team Al Wasl 4-0 in the Etisalat Cup second round encounter played this evening at Zabeel Stadium in Dubai. Both squads have collected three points each so far from two matches along with Bani Yas. They played an attacking and open football seeking an early goal that can boost their morals. The visiting squad Al Dhafra, were the first to find the target when their defender Hazza Salem collected the ball and ran down the right flank before crossing it in front of the mouth of the goal for the Senegalese striker Makhete Diop to head it home only nine minutes from the starting whistle giving his team an early 1-0 lead. Al Dhafra’s organized and concentrated defense did not give their opponents any chance to put more pressure on them and at the same time they went on creating a number of scoring sitters. Led by their duo dangerous professional players Senegalese Makhete Diop and Amara Diane from Ivory Coast, Al Dhafra gave the home team hard time as they built continuous forays every now and then. Their hard work soon resulted in the second goal which was also scored by Makhete Diop who received a brilliant pass from Bandar Al Ahbabi and he did not hesitate to slam the ball home in the 32nd minute to end the first half with a two straight goals win.
Al Wasl started the second session with all the hope to come back into the game but their performance was not convincing. They played below the par and failed to threaten their rivals’ goal. Things became worst for the hosts when Al Dhafra scored the third goal through the unmarked player Bandar Al Ahbabi who benefited from Diane’s lovely pass in the 54th minute. Makhete Diop scored a hat – trick and his team’s fourth goal with a perfect header off the cross ball sent by Bandar Al Ahbabi into the sixth yard area in the 66th minute. Hamad Raqea came close to make it 5-0 when he was sent free but his volley rebounded off the upright 7 minutes to time. Al Wasl were rewarded a penalty kick one minute later when Mohammed Qasim touched the ball with his hand inside the box, but Al Faro failed to score when the winners’ goalie Adil Al Sinani blocked his shot to end the game with a 4-0 win for his team Al Dhafra.
