Al Wasl stun defending champions

Etisalat Pro-League champions Al Wahda were stunned 2-0 by Al Wasl in their opening match of this year's competition in the match which was held at Al Wasl Stadium in Dubai on Thursday.

Al Wasl opened the scoring through Mohamad Jamal (60) before their Spanish midfielder Francisco Yeste scored their second goal on the night (67) to give Al Wasl a good opening win.
Al Wasl had the better start in the game as they created the first danger on Al Wahda goal when their midfielder Essa Ali shot went over the cross bar (13) while the defending champions replied seven minutes afterwards through Cote D'Ivoire midfielder Modibo Diarra but his shot went next to the right upright.

Essa Ali continued his impressive performance in the next minutes as he had a powerful shot from a free kick (24) but the ball was saved by Al Wahda goalkeeper Adel Al Hosani who saved a shot from Brazilian forward Alexandre Oliveira five minutes later.

Al Wahda went into the attack in the last minutes of the first period and they should have scored when their Brazilian striker Fernando Baiano had a shot which was saved by Al Wasl goalkeeper Majed Nasser (34).

Al Wasl had a good start in the second half and they nearly took the lead when Alexandre Oliveira made his way on the right before firing a powerful shot which hit the crossbar (52).

But the crossbar came to help Al Wasl eight minutes later when Mohamad Jamal had a powerful shot from outside the area which hit the woodwork and went into the net to give the lead for Al Wasl.
Al Wasl doubled their advantage through their Spanish midfielder Francisco Yeste who curled a shot from outside the area on the right side past Al Wahda goalkeeper (67).

Al Wahda nearly pulled a goal back through their Brazilian midfielder Marcio Rodrigues who had a powerful header but the ball was cleared by Al Wasl defender Sauod Saeed off the goal line (81).
