10-man Al Wahda punish Kalba with narrow 2-1 victory
Two goals from Australian Dino Djulbic proved the difference for Al Wahda as they defeated Kalba 2-1 with only 10 men on the field for much of the game at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Round 16 of the Etisalat Pro League. The win gives Al Wahda a points tally of 21, whilst Kalba remain second-from-bottom with 7 points.
Djulbic opened the scoring for the home side in the 18th minute as he rose above the Kalba defence to head home and put Al Wahda 1-0 up with his first goal of the season. Ten minutes later, Al Wahda’s key defender Hamdan Al Kamali conceded a penalty and was sent off, reducing the side to 10 men. Kalba’s Jordanian midfielder Amer Deeb converted the spot kick to level the scores at 1-1 in the 28th minute. In the 41st minute, Djulbic doubled his personal scoring tally and put his side back in front with another header from a Srdan Andric corner, sending Al Wahda into the half-time break with a 2-1 advantage.
The second half offered several scoring opportunities for each side, as Papa Waigo squandered an opportunity to put Al Wahda 3-1 up in the 54th minute, and Kalba worked hard to stamp their mark on the game and try to capitalise on their one-man advantage. However, it was the side with 10 men who managed to weather Kalba’s attacks and hold on for a narrow 2-1 victory.
