Al Wasl have the last word
A last minute goal gifted Al Wasl a rewarding 3 points, beating their hosts Al Wahda 2-1 in the encounter that took place this evening at Al Nahyan stadium in the Round 8 of the Etisalat cup competition.
Al Wasl seemed more consistent at the beginning to have the word and control the pitch having more than one chance to score throughout the first half, but it was Al Wahda who opened the scoring through Baiano in the 38th minute to end the first part of the game with a 1-0 victory to the Abu Dhabi hosting team.
It was until the mid-second half when Hamad Al Hosani scored the equalizer, and just when everybody thought the match was about to end with a draw, Essa Ali brought happiness to the Zabeel fans raising hope not to leave the competition early and still have the chance to be part of the semifinalists when he netted Al Wasl’s rewarding second goal in the 93rd minute.
With 12 points Al Wasl move closer on the standings sharing points with the third place occupiers Dubai and only one point difference from the second place holders Al Ain, while Al Wahda with this cup-defeat lose hope to remain in the competition and stand 5th in the Group A table with 9 points.
