Al Wahda make it into the golden box
Curtains fall on the 2011 Etisalat Pro League matches with a breathtaking 2-1 victory the 2010 league champions Al Wahda successfully snatched over their tough rivals bossed by the football legend Maradona Al Wasl in the thrill that took place this evening at Al Nahyan Stadium within Round 9 of Etisalat Pro League competition.
Sadly to Maradona his team did not serve him well tonight, his face spoke of dissatisfaction of the unexpected and the unanticipated performance from Al Wasl with a consecutive close to score missed shots from the Australian Richard Porta in the 57th,66th and the 70th minutes. It was not a happy 2011 ending to the yellows that might put their status in the competition in danger.
Al Wahda were more organized throughout the match yet somehow lost control in the second half with the excessive pressure Al Wasl put on them. During the first half their transition from defense to attack was recognized and by the 22nd minute scored their first goal through the Brazilian Baiano who added another goal in the 31st minute but was canceled for offside. The two past score opening they had home facing Ajman and Sharjah gave the 2011 Etisalat Cup champions the feeling that it could happen again tonight, and the magic worked.
Before the end of the first half Fahed Masoud almost scored a tie in the 47th minute and the first half ended with a 1-0 victory to Al Wahda. It was until the 73rd minute when Al Wasl scored a tie through a head shot netted by Olivera, and Al Wasl almost added another point to their standing but 7 minutes later Hugo scored the precious rewarding second goal to the 2010 league champions in the 80th minute.
With 16 points Al Wahda topple Al Nasr down to the 5th position on the league table and reserve themselves the 4th place in the golden box by the end of 2011,while Al Wasl with 13 points remain 6th on the standings.
