Al Ahli hold Al Wahda to a 3-3 draw
Dubai – based Al Ahli returned back from Abu Dhabi with an invaluable point after holding Al Wahda to a 3-3 draw in the Etisalat Pro League 17th round game which was held this evening at Al Nahyan Stadium. This single point did not change the positions of the two teams in the ladder as Al Wahda retained their seventh spot with 21 points while Al Ahli are staying in ninth place with 19 points, the same balance of Bani Yas who are one step ahead of Al Ahli in spite of their tonight’s 3-0 defeat to Al Ain.
The hosts’ Brazilian striker Hugo was the first to open the score in the 30th minute off a cross from his countryman Bayano; Ismail Matter sent a perfect header that rebounded from Al Ahli’s goalkeeper for Hugo to slam it home from a close range. The two squads exchanged attacks afterwards but failed to add more goals. Ismail Mattar made it 2-0 four minutes before the break to end the first session with a two straight lead for his side.
Graffiti reduced the deficit only one minute into the second half and his colleague Luis Antonio Jiminez leveled the score in the 58th minute bringing the game to the first square. Both sides went on their attempts to add more goals for Ismail Al Hamadi to give the visitors the lead when he netted the third goal in the 75th minute. But at the time the game was heading towards a draw, Hugo saved the day for Al Wahda when he scored the equalizer two minutes into injury time to end the match with a 3-3 draw.
