Al Wahda beat AlKuraitiat 2-1 to put them out of contention
Al Wahda defeated AlKuraitiat of Qatar 2-1 in their third round match of the 27 Gulf Clubs Championship played this evening at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi putting the visiting team out of contention. The UAE side beat their rivals earlier with two straight goals in their away game held in Doha. The winners raised their balance to 6 points, the same that of Al Arabi of Kuwait the leaders of the group, taking second position. They secured themselves a berth in the next stage along with the Kuwaiti team Al Arabi. Their Austrian coach Hecksberger fielded in tonight's match a number of his reserve team players giving a rest to most of his key players prior to their crucial President's Cup semifinal match against Bani Yas due to kick off next Sunday.
Saeed Al Katheri put the hosts into the lead only four minutes into play and his colleague Salim Saleh made it 2-0 in the 27th minute before Yahya Keebi reduced the deficit two minutes later.
Al Wahda and Al Arabi will battle it out on May 1st in Kuwait in their away match to determine the leaders of the group while AlKuraitiat will conclude their matches on April 17 when they host Al Arabi of Kuwait.
