Al Wahda beat Masafi to qualify to semifinals
Al Wahda have qualified to the semifinals of the President's Cup following their 2-0 easy fought win over First Division "B" team Masafi in their match played this evening at Al Wasl Stadium. The winners controlled the game from the start putting more pressure on their opponent's defence and their efforts were soon rewarded when defender Hamdan Al Kamali drove the ball home in the 22nd minute. Masafi played defensively depending on counter attacks to end the first session with a 1-0 lead for Al Wahda.
Abu Dhabi-based team Al Wahda continued their raids after the break trying to score more goals, but Masafi's defender Yaagoub Ibrahim made it on behalf of them scoring the second goal when he tried to clear the ball away but for his bad fortune he headed it into his own net in the 54th to make it 2-0. In spite of the changes made by the two coaches in the second half, but the two teams couldn't add more goals.
In the second match of the day, Al Wasl eliminated their city rivals Al Ahli from the President's Cup Competition after beating them tonight with a solitary goal in the quarterfinals game played at Al Shabab Stadium. Francisco Yeste from Spain scored the all-important goal of the match in the 60th minute. This victory helped the winners to move forward to the next stage to face Al Wahda in the semifinals in March.
